Dominic Langdon-Down started Bassetts Farm Contracts in 1975 as a 1 man agricultural contractor. Farm work kept me busy through the summer but tree work, fencing and groundworks were undertaken in the winter. The Business grew over the next 10 years to taking on 1 then 2 staff. During the mid to late 1980's when our dairying customers were in decline, we diversified into construction and seeding works on golf courses which many local farms converted to.
In 1990 I was approached by Mercury to have a mobile phone aerial site on my farm, for which we did the groundworks and fencing. Since then we have built just short of 1000 aerial sites from our base in Kent, as far afield as Bolton, Norwich, Wales and Dorset. Bassetts Farm Contracts became BFC Groundworks and gave up all agricultural work to specialise in aerial sites and all general concreting and groundworks. The company moved to its present location on the A21 just south of Tonbridge in 1995 and employs between 5 and 7 staff plus an Office manager and secretary.
BFC is now looking again to the future, as with most of the country covered by the mobile networks the aerial business is slowing down. We have decided on 3 directions:
The details of these 3 operations can be found on the relevant pages on this website, but are all run under the Bassetts Farm Contracts banner. The company philosophy hasn't changed either. All work is undertaken to the highest quality with full involvement of the client and good communication being our watchword. We will not hesitate to own up to our limitations and have excellent relationships with all our suppliers to enable the best service to be given by involving other experts in their fields when required.
A friendly, efficient and quality service is assured.
